Surface Preparation & Grinding: Build The Foundation
The Resin Lab Training Academy · Exclusive Resin Supply
Coming Soon · Free / $0
Learn to evaluate concrete, plan grinding and dust control, recognize moisture concerns, and document readiness before a coating system goes down.
Class Overview
The finish depends on the surface beneath it. This proposed class focuses on the decisions that establish a sound starting point: evaluating concrete, recognizing contaminants and existing coatings, planning repairs, selecting a preparation approach, and documenting moisture assessment.
Connect equipment and tooling choices with slab conditions and coating requirements. Review how preparation findings affect estimating, material selection, and scheduling. Learn to distinguish a condition that can be addressed within the planned scope from a question that needs further testing, manufacturer guidance, or specialist support.
Who This Class Is For
New coating installers, operators building grinding experience, crew leads responsible for preparation quality, and estimators who need to identify slab-related scope before pricing.
Learning Outcomes
• Create a practical site-assessment checklist for concrete and existing finishes.
• Explain how preparation method and surface profile relate to coating manufacturer requirements.
• Identify equipment, tooling, dust-control, and site-protection questions for a preparation plan.
• Distinguish moisture screening from specified testing and recognize when further investigation is needed.
• Document repairs, unresolved conditions, and readiness checks before coating work begins.
Proposed Module Outline
Module 1: Read The Slab
Review contamination, prior coatings, visible damage, cracks, joints, access, and job history. Record findings and questions rather than assuming the slab is ready.
Module 2: Plan The Preparation
Compare removal and profiling goals. Relate tooling and preparation methods to concrete conditions and the selected coating system’s documented requirements.
Module 3: Understand Grinding Equipment
Review machine components, edge work, tooling wear, dust-extraction connections, equipment inspection, and the need for appropriate operator training. Follow equipment-manufacturer instructions and site safety procedures.
Module 4: Assess Moisture Concerns
Discuss moisture history, screening tools, specified test methods, documentation, and system compatibility. Use current manufacturer guidance for test selection and acceptance criteria rather than applying a universal moisture limit.
Module 5: Verify And Price The Prep
Plan repairs, cleaning, inspection, and readiness records. Identify allowances, additional work, and customer communication when site conditions change.
Experience Level & Prerequisites
Foundational. No previous grinder operation is assumed. Any practical equipment work requires appropriate training, protective equipment, dust-control measures, and compliance with equipment instructions and site safety procedures.
What To Expect
The proposed format combines concrete-condition examples, equipment and tooling discussion, moisture-assessment scenarios, and preparation-planning exercises. Any machine demonstrations or supervised practice will depend on the final format and safety arrangements. Bring a notebook and photos or questions from relevant projects. Equipment access, duration, venue, and practical-work requirements will be confirmed before registration opens.
Coming Soon. No dates or enrollment are available yet. This outline does not prescribe moisture limits, test acceptance values, surface-profile specifications, or universal equipment settings. Use applicable manufacturer guidance and qualified support for the actual project.
Reservations will open when sessions are scheduled.
