The core curriculum

Start with the slab. Finish with the business.

Four Resin Lab classes, free to attend, with dates opening soon. Each stands on its own, but they build on each other: most installers start with prep, add flake or metallic, then tighten up how they price and run jobs.

Surface Preparation & Grinding: Build the foundation

Learn to evaluate concrete, plan grinding and dust control, recognize moisture concerns, and document readiness before a coating system goes down.

Who it is for: New coating installers, operators building grinding experience, crew leads responsible for prep quality, and estimators who need to spot slab-related scope before pricing.

  • Create a practical site-assessment checklist for concrete and existing finishes.
  • Explain how prep method and surface profile relate to the coating manufacturer's requirements.
  • Plan equipment, tooling, dust control and site protection.
  • Tell moisture screening apart from specified testing, and know when to dig further.
  • Document repairs, open conditions and readiness checks before coating starts.

Course outline

Module 1: Read the slab

Contamination, prior coatings, damage, cracks, joints, access and job history. Record findings and questions instead of assuming the slab is ready.

Module 2: Plan the preparation

Compare removal and profiling goals, and match tooling and methods to the slab and the coating system's documented requirements.

Module 3: Understand grinding equipment

Machine components, edge work, tooling wear, dust-extraction connections and equipment inspection, following the equipment maker's instructions and site safety.

Module 4: Assess moisture concerns

Moisture history, screening tools, specified test methods, documentation and system compatibility, using current manufacturer guidance rather than a universal limit.

Module 5: Verify and price the prep

Plan repairs, cleaning, inspection and readiness records. Identify allowances and how to talk to the customer when conditions change.

No previous grinder operation is assumed. Any hands-on equipment work requires training, protective equipment, dust control and site safety procedures.

Coming soonFreeFoundational to intermediate

Flake Floor Systems: Prep to final coat

Build a clear process for attractive flake floors: slab readiness, system planning, broadcast consistency, finishing and practical job coordination.

Who it is for: Installers entering garage and commercial flake work, crew members who need a shared sequence, and contractors standardizing how they plan and deliver flake jobs.

  • Assess site conditions and flag prep, repair and moisture questions before quoting.
  • Plan a compatible flake system and explain color and finish options to a customer.
  • Organize material quantities, work zones, edge details and crew roles.
  • Spot uneven coverage, loose material and finishing problems that need attention.
  • Build inspection, care instructions and handoff into the job plan.

Course outline

Module 1: Scope the floor

Intended use, color samples, transitions, edges, access and existing slab conditions. Record what the proposal includes and excludes.

Module 2: Prepare for adhesion

Connect assessment, grinding, repairs, cleaning and moisture evaluation with the system's requirements. Plan dust control and protection.

Module 3: Organize the installation

Use measured areas and published coverage to plan materials. Coordinate work zones, mixing, equipment and application windows.

Module 4: Plan the flake broadcast

Broadcast methods for the system you picked, consistent coverage, edges, handling excess and inspection before finishing.

Module 5: Finish and hand off

Scraping, cleaning and topcoat prep, final checks, cure restrictions, maintenance guidance and customer communication.

No advanced decorative experience needed. Familiarity with coating terms and basic site safety helps.

The Resin Lab · ERS-TRAIN-METALLIC

Coming soonFreeFoundational to intermediate

Metallic Epoxy Floors: From concept to finish

Plan striking metallic floors with a disciplined workflow, from concrete assessment and base coats to pattern development, protective finishes and handoff.

Who it is for: Installers moving into decorative metallic work, experienced crews refining their process, and contractors who want to sell metallic floors with a clearer scope.

  • Build a project plan that ties design intent, substrate condition and the coating system together.
  • Explain how prep, moisture assessment and base-coat choices shape the finished floor.
  • Plan samples, material quantities, mixing logistics, placement and pattern work from the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Recognize common appearance and application problems and know when to call for technical support.
  • Include finish protection, cure restrictions, maintenance and handoff in the scope.

Course outline

Module 1: Design the floor

The space, lighting, use, samples and acceptable variation, turned into a written finish brief so the customer knows what a decorative floor looks like.

Module 2: Read and prepare the concrete

Existing coatings, contamination, repairs, grinding and moisture. Identify the product documents and testing needed before install.

Module 3: Plan the system and materials

Compatible layers, base-coat intent, tools, quantities, work zones and crew roles, with current technical and safety data.

Module 4: Develop metallic movement

Sample-based color placement and pattern development, working time, batch consistency and sequencing.

Module 5: Protect and deliver the finish

Finish selection, inspection, manufacturer cure and return-to-service requirements, maintenance and handoff.

Basic resin coating experience helps. New installers should take Surface Preparation & Grinding first.

Pricing & Running the Job: Estimate to handoff

Turn a measured floor into a clear scope, a realistic estimate, an organized material plan and a coordinated job, from the first conversation to final handoff.

Who it is for: Owner-operators, estimators, project coordinators and growing crew leads who want a more organized way to quote and run resin flooring work.

  • Turn measurements and site findings into a written scope with clear assumptions and exclusions.
  • Build an estimate that covers materials, labor, prep, equipment, overhead and risk.
  • Explain your price from your own costs and goals.
  • Create a material and crew plan with readiness checkpoints and customer updates.
  • Document changes, inspect the work and organize handoff records.

Course outline

Module 1: Measure and define scope

Rooms, usable area, edges, access, slab conditions and customer priorities. State assumptions and exclusions before the proposal.

Module 2: Build the cost estimate

Material quantities from current coverage guidance, plus labor, equipment, waste, prep, overhead and contingencies.

Module 3: Choose and explain a price

Markup and margin, proposal clarity, payment milestones and change documentation, using example scenarios, not prescribed prices.

Module 4: Stage materials and run the crew

Purchasing and staging checklist, crew responsibilities, work sequence, readiness checks and a plan for surprises.

Module 5: Communicate and close the job

Customer updates, scope changes, final inspection, care instructions, punch lists and handoff, then estimated versus actual to sharpen the next bid.

Bring a sample floor plan or past estimate if you have one, plus a calculator.

What to expect

Walkthroughs, samples and real job planning.

Classes combine system walkthroughs, sample and project reviews, guided discussion and planning exercises built around real floors. Demonstrations and hands-on work depend on the final format and safety arrangements, and are confirmed before registration opens, along with materials, equipment, length and location.

Bring a notebook and questions about your own process. Product mixing, application, coverage, moisture limits, cure times and protective equipment always follow current manufacturer documentation, and we will show you where to find it.
